Newton carpet set - anyone managed to fit one?

Post by Wardy66 »

I know this has been asked a few years ago but I don't think there were any replies.
I've got a Newton carpet set for my Autohomes Kamper - petrol water-cooled.

It looks sort of correct but when it comes to fitting, nothing seems to line up correctly, the rubber strips don't fit in the slots on the bodywork, the cut lines don't sen to match any of the curves of the van properly.
There seems to be an awful lot of trimming required but I'm reluctant to start!

I ned to talk to Newton but thought I'd check and see if there's any experience on here. Photos would be great of course!

Cheers

You could be right.
I ordered the petrol version (for a lower centre tunnel) but looking at other vans my centre tunnel is higher, more like a diesel version.
That might be the issue but it shouldn't change the fit around the seat bases which is still poor.

Looks as though you've got the extra ducting to take warm air into the back, exiting at the step level with the battery boxes. I imagine that you should remove the ducting, fit the carpet and replace the ducting on top. That's how the carpet is in my van.

Couple of bolts close to gear lever, screws holding the strip at rear then lift at an angle to get it out (Usually needing one seat belt stalk undoing). Had one in my Caravelle but got rid once I added at Propex in the back.

Thanks very much CovKid and marlinowner - that makes a lot more sense now. Just taken the duct off and the trim panel above.Centre carpet fits now but still not convinced on fit of other parts - looks like there'll be trimming to do.
Also now need either another piece of carpet on top of the duct or try and clean it up and spray it black.

Job for another wet day!

I have exactly the same problem in my Caravelle. I have tried numerous carpet materials but they're not a perfect fit due to all the curves involved so I've never solved it. My suggestion would be to let it sit there for quite a while (months possibly) before you actually cut anything.
