replacement for pull out top bed

Post by brookseysblues »

Hi, I've got a T25 Hi top home conversion thats about 27 years old. The original base that would have pulled out for the upper double bed to sit on on is missing (if there ever was one originally). So the previous owner replaced it with a piece of chipboard made to measure. I would really love to replace this as its really difficult to pull out, sprinkles chipboard everywhere everytime its pulled out  and it also sags with two kids up there so I don't think its too safe either. I have looked all over the wiki and searched on the internet for replacement parts/ideas etc and can find nothing. Has anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I have just made a pull out bed for my van. Mine had never had a bed up there from what I had seen but a few helpful members on here posted some pictures to show me what I was aiming for. All I did was cut some 18mm ply to the correct width and cover with carpet. I just need to make a locking system that will hold it in place when as a bed and when pushed back. I was a bit cautious at first as I lent on it when pulled out and it bent very slightly. However, once my 2 girls where up there it didn't sag at all. One bit of advice I was given was to fit this section whilst I was having my hightop window rubbers replaced as I could use the extra space with the windows out to get it in place. Not sure how easy this will be with the windows in. You could always put some strengthening batons across the plywood if you needed it even stronger. Hope this helps. Maybe put some pictures up. I could always post some pictures of what I have done if it will help. Cheers, Jon.

For the mattress I used my bed memory foam mattress as I was getting a new bed anyway. Kept the old mattress in the conservatory for about 6 months as I hoped it would be up for the job and it certainly got in the way. Anyway, I used an electric bread carving knife to trim the mattress down. I was making the cushions for my rock n roll bed too. These needed to be 4inches deep and that left about 3 inches for the upper bed. I've not got round to covering them yet as my RnR bed isn't fitted yet so waiting to trim the cushions for the final fit before covering (this is something the misses will actually happily do)

Will pop some pictures up later once the rain lays off :ok

Here's a link to my thread about this. A few good pictures there.
