the joys - lost reverse gear and 1st is hit n miss today, but i managed to get it back to the campsite we are staying on in Sidmouth. This came totally out of the blue because I have replaced all the gear linkage's last year (ally guides, detent pin, spring and rubber boot, etc at the front section - all bushes in the middle section have been replaced also - and the new gear selector cup (Brickwerks replacement) rear section, however I didn't replace plastic onion that sits in the gear selector coming out of the gearbox - the plastic onion is now goosed. I have ordered a replacement part and hopefully receive this on Wednesday - as we need to be off the site Thursday morning.
My question is because I don't have any manual's with me to read how to replace the plastic onion? Luckily i do have some tools.
Is the plastic onion a push on part? How does it stay in place?
Can I just undo the metal bracket with the bush in it which is closest to gear selector off a little?
Will this give me enough movement to drop the gear selector and gear rod down so I can pop the plastic onion on?
What's the process I need to do - all advice is totally appreciated.
Cheers
Nick

Re: HELP FAST - lost reverse gear/1st
Hi, not a difficult task, takes about 10mins. Put gear in neutral then slacken off the plate for the rear bush a little to give a bit of movement. Unbolt the gearshift lever from the gearshift shaft (gearbox end with the plastic onion thingy) and release out of the boot, change the plastic onion and then put back together making sure the selection lever is nicely vertical to the gearshift shaft before tightening up the plates for the rear bush. Then check your gears. Hope that helps!

Re: HELP FAST - lost reverse gear/1st
Thanks for the heads up plan38 - all when to plan - justkampers got the part here for 11:30. Txt message updates throughout the delivery process, meant I wasnt stressing out if I would get it in time.. I only order the plastic onion, so i just needed to undo bracket, lower the rod complete and just knock on the plastic onion onto the gear selector. God I though I had a solid gear change compared to other vans, when I replaced everything bar onion last year, but boy has this enhanced gear changing to another level - happy days. I may even fit the short shift kit i have had sitting around the last year or so now!
