Water pump leaking suddenly

Post by mikec »

My newly acquired 1.9TD (was 1.6td) has spontaneously started leaking from the water pump. She did do some hard up and down hill work yesterday but the fan came on ok. Can I let her cool down, top her up and run the few miles home? What's it likely to be? New pump or new gasket?

Looks like this is answered on Facebook. Leaking from centre of pump /bearing, .

Guess this has turned into "Any advice when I change this bad boy".

Engine is allegedly out of a Seat. Block inevitably has Audi sign cast on side. Engine number is 028 103 373 J.

Hopefully this will get me the right pump at GSF or similar. Anyone recommend a parts supplier in West Midlands (Kidderminster)?

Anyone know what engine that part number denotes?

Thanks for any advice.

Mike

Might get you there but probably not and then you'll have to buy another engine. Risk=too high (in my view)

How far exactly are you planning driving?

Have left van standing where it was.. Its secure outside our workshop. Plan is to take out pump, dump it on parts counter and ask for one just like that.

In the meantime, spotted that there seems to be something missing between dipstick tube and where it enters the block, as it moves up, down and around easily So I fear I now have water and degreasant in the sump... Ho hum.

Oh well, the new van was a bargain...

Had to do that once without sealant. For a truck in the middle of nowhere in Namibia. Thought I'd passed that adventurous stage...

Ordered complete assembly from brickworks due to complications.
