Filling underslung LPG tank

Post by AWedlock »

I recently became the proud owner of a 1989 T25 Westfalia California. I am having trouble filling the underslung gas tank. I have bought a bayonet adapter from Gasure. When I go to my local garage and fit the adapter, I attached the LPG hose which all seems to connect properly, I then press the button to start filling. At this point the machine sounds like it is pumping, however the display ticks over incredible slowly. I spent nearly 10-15mins and it registered 1 litre. My gauge is not reading anything. At this point I gave up and came home.

I recently lit the stove to try and the gas appeared to run out, so the tank has obviously not filled up at all.

All my instructions are in German.

So what am I doing wrong? Do I need to open any vents or anything else to make it work?

I have tried to look for local LPG fitter but there appears to be non local here in "rural" Leatherhead Surrey!
Thanks for any help.

i would try another lpg pump 1st, like at another fuel station. I've had similar in the past, and it was just a dodgy pump

Thanks Lloydy, do you fill up locally? if so which Station? I was going to give the BP in Ewell a go as I think they have autogas.

Thanks.
So just to confirm its should be as simple as fitting the adapter, plugging on the gas pump and pressing the button? No opening any other vents or valves?

Sounds more like the tank is full!
Have you turned the gas on for the burners/fridge? The tap is usually in line with the gas pipe when it is on.

^^^WHS - it might be that the tank is full already - it's only supposed to fill to 80% of maximum and then the pump should cut off once it reaches that level.

If you're guage is reading 0 then I can understand why you're confused. That must be faulty then if the tank is full? Something not right some where!
