Door lock pull

Post by CovKid »

Not a problem I've come across before. Door pull (button) appears locked in one position. Is up and staying up so can't lock door from inside or via key from outside. Is there a part that collapses/wears on lock mech?

Have had to disable outside handle otherwise anyone could open door.

Hi Ralph, the rod connects to a little plastic clip that in turn connects to a little curved metal bit from the door latch (you really have to look in close to see it). The little plastic bit can fall off (as has done on my driver door), however, as far as I know it should still lock & unlock but just won't lift the rod. Worth having a spray of wd40 where that little curved metal bit is and maybe a little tap with a small hammer if you can get it in there just in case it's got stuck.

Many thanks. I'll do that. Time to strip doors down. I also want to redesign/rethink handles slightly so its not just a lever pushing a bit of metal from the outside. Seems a weak point to me. I don't think VW thought that one through particularly well. If I come up with a solution, I'll post it in members area.
