I've had my camper for over 5 years with very little problem. It has only 73k on the clock and usually runs fine. A few weeks ago I took it out for its first run of the season. It started first time and ran for 6 miles and then just cut out.
No obvious fault found. 10 minutes later it started and I managed to go about 500yds and it died again. RAC called, but no joy. Got it home and next day it started fine. Booked it into local VDub specialist, he said all was fine. So I took it for another trip at the weekend, it was running perfectly, then after 11 miles it died. Restarted after 10 minutes, then died. Got it home on the drive and started it up no problems. It ran without problems, couldn't get it to cut out! How do I fix something that doesn't appear to be broken? But is!
New coil already fitted. Fuel is coming through. Good battery connection. All earth connections look good. Spark at plug is fine.
Could this be a faulty ECU?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hello and welcome....... introduce yourself on the general chat...... get a blue name...... the world is your oyster
fresh fuel is the first question.........second question are all the electrical contacts clean and shinny....un-plug and clean them all....remove the afm from the air filter box and give it a damn good blast of contact cleaner.. don't spend any money until the above is completed...... 3rd question are the idiot lights behaving as they should at the turn of the key and is the fuel pump priming during your old ladies episodes..... when you have some answers return and let us know how its performing......
its ok to spend on a tin of contact cleaner spray

Cheers for the replies. Working full time is getting in the way of my VW leisure activities e.g. lying underneath my van. Also off to festival this weekend (IN A TENT), so unlikely to have much time.
The fuel pump is priming, you can definitely hear it. No silly dashboards lights. All looks good and when it's driving, it's sweet. No missing, no popping, nothing.
I'm going to change the fuel filter and clean everything I can get hold of ASAP.
Meanwhile, any other suggestions will be put on the list.

if the pump is priming during the episodes then I would ignore the ecu for now as its telling the system to get ready.
could be crap on the track of the wiper inside the afm...... pop the top off and clean with spray..... it is watch like so care should be taken.... carbon builds up on the track. if it is juddering to halt ie over fuelling and smells like its over fuelling then it could be the temp2..
my issues in the dim and distant past now where neglect by the previous owner(s), major service and a good clean of all electrical components and a new temp2 sorted it......

Just wondered what the temp2 sensor is?

temp2 tells the ecu how warm the engine is
