clutch problems

Post by GTA320Y »

Hi guys. A few weeks ago I jumped into van ready for first weekend away, got van started put foot on clutch and it just went stright to floor nothing there!. Checked the brake fluid and although a little down plenty in. Anyway bled the system and back to normal great! Off we went and had good few days away no probs (apart from starter motor but thats another storey.) Jumped in van this morn to take it for run out as we off up scotland next week. And same again clutch just straight to floor. So before it gets bled again is this usual? Had the van a few year now and never had to keep bleeding. Theres no signs of leaks in footwell!!. Do I need to replace clutch cylinder? Ive looked and there seems two different styles master cylinder and clutch cyljnder or are these both the same?. On the starter motor just clicks maybe 6/7 times then starts any ideas? Its a 1983 1.9 dg. Cheers any advice would be good

Others will advise on clutch. Sounds like failure of master or slave. On starter: https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/VW ... rter_motor" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No puddle in cab? Lift the engine hatch, feel under the slave cylinder & squeeze the rubber boot to see if its wet.
The slaves probably get swapped repeatedly trying to cure a fault but the master gets ignored, which is arguably easier and quicker to change.

As suggested lift the engine lid and check the slave cylinder. Sounds like that is the problem.
