correct oil filter?

Post by paperhouselad »

Looked on the wiki without luck, got a new oil filter for 1982 Aircooled 2ltr, used to get fram ph7498 filter but this time they said it's now been superceeded by coopers fiaam ft 5582. The thread is the same and rubber seal but my concern is the body is smaller, is threre any way to check if this filter ok. many thanks.

Are you sure you have been using the correct filter? If you search those numbers, the fram filter fits a case or toyota tractor! And the coopers is alfa romeo. Go for a Mann filter like this one

Readily available elsewhere too.

Cheers sams bus, i looked and saw tractor etc on the list but always had a fram ph7498 on so just kept getting the same until it was discontinued from motor factors. Done no harm hopefully as had 6 years trouble free camping. Ordered that mann one now, again thanks for your input.
