Sliding Door Pops Out

Post by Chunksta »

Guys,

My sliding door keeps popping out as we drive along.
It doesn't open right up, it just U latches.

Is this a common issue?

Just fixed mine from this exact problem.

The fault was just wear to the latch 'hooks' which result in them rounding off.

I took the lock off (take off door card and release the opening rod first) from the two large cross head bolts.

Once off I cleaned out all the old grease and checked it was still all square. If not squeeze gently in a vice just to bring true.

Check the locking mechanism for nice sharp hooks. If they've rounded off file them back to a decent point hook but try not to take off too much metal.

Once done I regreased it all and put back on.

Shuts perfectly now without any slamming and doesn't pop open anymore :)

Use a small socket set ratchet with hex adaptor and pozi drive bit. Or just possible with 1/4" ring spanner directly holding a pozi drive bit.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

tell me, when the door is closed does it line up nice on the swages and are the gaps ok ? if the answer is yes then as that latch looks to be badly worn in the way it is then that would suggest the striker pin is correct but the door want lifting on its mountings, would need good picks of the gaps at both sides and the swage alignment to confirm,
door takes seconds to lift of the track and sit it on a stand to give access

You just need the right size bit to fit, that's all.

Am impact driver might be handy if its really stuck...

MM,

I changed out the lock, and adjusted the door pin to suit.

Door fits much better and closes first time now.

Thanks for your help.
