Price of remote circuits falling

Lots of places seem to sell remote controlled mains sockets, and at high prices (average £15-£35). Came across two in a pack in local bargain shop with a four channel remote for a silly £2.99. Figured I could buy another pack giving me four of them and two remotes which can both work all four sockets. Once adjusted, that proved to be correct. Identical to:

Point I'm making (and possibly something Ghost123UK may want to play with) is that stripped down, that gives you a lot of remote controlled circuitry for next to nothing. The recievers are no doubt stepped down to 12v or 5v (probably 12v to energise the relays) so should work off a car battery too. £6 for two 4-channel remotes and four recievers is good value.

As units, they operate on 433MHZ and each one will switch up to 2KW

All this for £5.98 I'm sure had they be made in the UK you'd be looking at £80+

never forget having a remote door bell with different sounds you could select by a switch in the push button.

somebody across the street had the same and so I knew when there was somebody at their door as my unit started barking, first time it happened I was puzzled

oh yes and the time in my local pub when footie was on the TV, lots of people watching and suddenly it changes channel, it was one of these remote tv signal senders, they had the same model as somebody next door

I have some and they stopped working pretty fast I am sorry to report.

Will keep ya posted on that score. Seem to work at mo which will be great when I'm sat in bed watching a movie on the PC and can't be arsed to get out of bed and turn the screen off. Then when I get bored with them I'll take them apart and make something new out of them. For £6 you can't complain I suppose.

I can never understand why one cannot buy a decent version of those. I have owned 3 different types, they all suffer from either poor range or prone to interference, or both, even the newer 2.4 gHz ones. There is a huge market for them, but no-one seems to make a decent one

Attached to a Raspberry pi and a bit of code, I can switch lights on and off from my mobile phone, PC or tablet.
They also switch on/off in the morning and evening.
Not cheap, but dead cool....

My father in law has a few all over the house. He's not very mobile these days so it helps him to turn things off before he goes to bed. His are still working fine after about a year.
