broken down again

Post by Sir Brixalot »

On my first trip since Elite did engine transplant. I have broken down yet again near Bodiam Castle. I heard a sudden clattering and pulled over. When I turn the key I hear a spark and a clang where the gear box meets the engine but it won't start. Any ideas? A A on way. Another trip on a low loader coming up. Feel sorry for wife and j kids!

clutch come loose, fingers broken up or release bearing fallen to bits. Might all be jammed up in there. I think loose flywheel might make more noise. Not guessable really. Need to get gearbox out.

Jeez, after your "Is the garage taking the P out of me?" thread this is not good is it :(

When I turn the key I hear a spark and a clang where the gear box meets the engine but it won't start

Trying to imagine what that means. Has the starter motor come loose perhaps and the dog is hitting the ring gear ?

At lease Elite seem to honour their guarantee pretty well, as far as I have heard.

Feel for you matey.

Thanks. I've got a spare starter motor which I'll fit. The noise started when I was doing 50 so woulnt thag mean the starter wouldn't come in to it?

My long thread on Elite VW has disappeared. I'd just like to add that another Elite Engine was fitted. I think this was the 6th rebuilt engine and lasted the longest, nearly 2,000 miles but is clattering now and the header is overflowing.

That thread is the end of engine number 4 - it wasn't anything to do with the gearbox-it was a dead engine. The thread started as " is the garage taking the P out of me" changed to is "Elite VW taking the P out of me". A long thread where I listed the rubbish workmanship, bodges, lost keys, immediate breakdowns, wasted trips down there. The one before this failed because a washer had been dropped into the engine and while this engine was being changed my mechanice told me that they'd wedged a piece of cardboard which had got wet to bodge the temp gauge. Much shorter threads are still around which makes me wonder why this thread had gone missing.

Maybe ask admin what has happened to it.As there's no reason myself or T'onion would of removed it.

Is there a good place to get a re-con engine, or are they all as bad?

Elite engines are not reconditioned.
They offer replacement engines with a warranty.

For reconditioned engines I would look to America.
