Smev 909

Post by Ads1987 »

Hi guys,

Just brought a smev 909 hob on eBay, just hoping you could answer a simple question, it's not fitted or hooked up to the gas yet, it has piezo ignition so my understanding is I just press the heater dial in and it would click and spark at the hob.

At the moment with the hob loose, pressing either dials in makes no spark and there is no resistance on the dial or click like on the fridge for example.

My question is, is there some kind of fail safe that stops the spark until the gas is connected or something is fitted on or do you think it's faulty?

Thanks,

Adam.

Are your power supply connectors connected correctly?

Nothing's connected at the moment at all, there's no electrical connectors. My understanding of piezo ignition is that it creates. Spark through friction like a lighter?

Most of the smev ones that I have seen manuals for have a 12v supply. Like for this generator here - supposed to be for a Smev 909 http://www.leisurespares.co.uk/gallery/img/1900006.jpg

It seems like a self contained unit from what I can see?

There is no spark ignition on that !!! You have to manually use matches etc.

Lol really?

All the 909s said piezo ignition in the specification, what's the pin sticking up next to the hob for as its not linked to the gas?

That's the thermocouple that holds the gas valve open once heated up.
There are manual 909 models listed that I have just seen on t'internet.
