Your thoughts please

Post by brandonabbie »

hi,right got a baffler here...1.9 dg just returned from a very nice week in northern Ireland,on the way up to cairnryan from lincoln (300miles) we just got to the port and the water light started flashing...pulled over header tank full, now this happened last year so i replaced cap (VW) and thermostat.
got over to ireland bled it sorted....drove 500miles around no problem then yesterday 50 miles from home did the same..?
all i can say is that after putting new stat in it does run a bit warmer on the gauge and i heard non-genuine can do this. Thanks

Have you tried removing the sensor in header and cleaning it? Mine will do this if the contacts are not clean.

X2 they collect crap, it doesn't take much
and a poor contact at the connector.

If that doesn't cure it then we have to go deeper

Its worth pulling "relay" 42/43, which monitors the coolant level sensor. If the fault still reoccurs then the problem is most likely at the dash, if not then probably a bad contact or similar at the sensor, although I had a bad contact inside the relay itself. Once the light has been triggered by an intermittent fault, it will keep flashing until reset by turning ignition off and on.

Actually it isn't very deep there, just very dangerous. I've been close to it in a Customs cutter. They reckon that if the ship ever explodes it will flatten most of Southend (which isn't that bad an idea!) It's name was the SS Richard Montgomery and was an American Liberty ship and had over 6000 tons of munitions from the USA on when she broke her back on a sandbank. Most of the munitions were removed but some are still aboard.
