Fitted a new seal and washer to our 1.6 diesel (sure i have them right way as per pics) but it still seems to leak from this area, removed the dipstick tube and it looks like part of it is missing, looking to see if im right?
It doesn't need much as there isn't a lot of block for it to go into. The 3 engines that I have stripped all just had an interference fit and didn't have the washer and o-ring and none of them leaked.
I would hazard a guess that yours is so loose that you can just pull it out by hand (usually you have to drift them out from underneath with the sump off) as you haven't said about any difficulty removing it.
That o-ring looks loose to me anyway - slightly too big.
New one? Someone may come up with a source.
I made my own up from a 1Y one and copper tube.
Sorry I should have said, its extremely hard to remove, can be done by hand but its a right good pull for it to come out, the washer and o-ring are from brickwerks so I know there 100% the correct size.
I ask because I am trying to sort out my Brother In law's 1.6 CS that has a leak from this area , I can pull the tube out fairly easily by hand, it has a green O ring but no washer , I have looked on Brickwerks but cant see the O ring or washer listed, I may be being dim...
Thanks in advance for any advice .

If you can pull it out by hand an O-ring and washer is going to be of no help is it?
You don't need to buy from brickwerks - the washers function is only to provide a flat mating surface so any robust washer that fits well will do the same job. The brickwerks one has no magical properties!

Thank you for the reply, It was more that if BW did sell them then I would know that it was the correct size and material for the job, I have a selection of generic O rings that I will try , I am no Diesel expect, so was surprised to read your previous posts regarding how tight these tubes need to be, given the fact that they usually need to be persuaded out with a hammer from the sump end, i Am surprised that an O ring is required at all, There must be some serious crank case pressure going on . There is no blow out of the oil filler tube at all.

If you look on my previous posts on this you will see that of the 3 blocks that I have stripped none of them had washers and o-rings and none of them leaked but they all had to be drifted out from underneath - there was no way that they could be removed by hand, same with replacing them - jubilee clip to get a protrusion and knock in with a hammer.
If it is loose enough to insert by hand oil will come out - no pressure needed as it is right in the line of fire of being thrown up by the crank etc.
Just a random thought - I would try to increase the diameter of a loose one, possibly it could be given a thin coat of solder to improve the fit.
is it possible that there are 2 different types ? It seems strange that some have O rings and some dont , I have done some research reading this afternoon, and it seems that this is a long ongoing issue with this engine fitted into the Golf as well, some seem to have a washer and 0 ring , some ( like the one Im working on ) just an O ring and the 3 that you have stripped have none, I am wondering if the ones with an extra washer fitted , is a modification to increase the downward force onto the O ring , because of the bolt holding it in position from above, this extra spacer would cause an increase in downward force, perhaps helping the O ring to seal.
Its certainly not a loose fit in the conventional sense, it takes some force to get it in and out , but only by hand no mole grips or pliers.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
