Propane connector - U.S?

Outside chance someone will have come across this. I have a propane tank (refillable) but the outlet tap/valve where you'd normally connect the regulator with a POL screw fitting (example in pic) seems either a fraction too small or thread is marginally different. I'm assuming that this is because its an american valve and there is a slight difference between U.S. pol fittings and European ones? Its a L/H thread (same as UK) but gets tight within two threads so clearly not the same.

Thanks fella. I guess that would do it. Just a case them of finding a way to go from there to a regular UK POL fitting so I can attach the regulator.

That's odd, I just did a search on the American Ebay for "propane regulator" and got "0 results found in the United States category"

Thanks fella. I guess that would do it. Just a case them of finding a way to go from there to a regular UK POL fitting so I can attach the regulator.

I did a search for US to UK adaptors, I didnt have time to spend in depth but I think there were some options, it may be worth another search.

I thought when this came up, it may be an option to get the pipe swapped from yours to this and just use the US type connector

I read somewhere that you can do the opposite, screw a USA type pol fitting into a European propane valve but this is presumably because its such a sloppy fit. Certainly its not recommend and deemed 'bad practice'. The other way (which I'm faced with) is completely impossible. Long term I'll swap the valve out for something more practical but as its a full tank, I want to at least use whats in it first.

The adjustable regulator an option. Will have to muse the cost.

I'm guessing here and maybe rambling a little but from my experience Americans love NPT, which from the description would be the same if you tried to put a BSP fitting into an NPT fitting. You would get a few threads in and then it would stop. The difference is literally next to nothing with regards pitch of threads and under other circumstances (ones not involving gas and paople) the standard practice would be just tap it out.

My point is (I'm getting there) and maybe I'm completely wrong, but if the fitting in the bottle is set up American then won't the top of the canister be of the same ilk? So an adapter will be needed along the way, so best to leave the already (I'm assuming) professionally fitted fitting in the top and fit the adapter to this?

Thats what I was getting at, as the fitting is only £8, get the fitting fitted to the hose (or even buy a length of hose with this fitting on it) and bobs your aunty. Once the fitting is on the hose, the other end of the hose can be connected to the UK Regulator.

I'll go with that. Not seen a female UK pol fitting (for other end) but I'm sure they exist. Agree - best leave tap/valve as it is. Once the adapter is screwed in, I can forget the fact the tap is US spec really.
