t25 DOKA 1.9tdi passat conversion...loosing power? HELP!

Post by Jimbos grunts »

Owned it for a few months now, no problems apart from the throttle cable kept getting wet. Driving it home just now and it started to die on me...not cutting out just pulling back, any pointers would be gratefully rec. Pretty sure it still has a quarter tank of diesel...i have only ever owned 1.9 petrols before...thx in advance

What have you checked so far ? Any fault codes ? Can you describe the installation ? They vary quite a bit..

Oh man! Firstly thanks for replying. There seems to be some coolant leaking out of a pipe that goes into the top of the engine? which is new. I have put more fuel in so its not that. I am not very technical at all, and was guessing it wasnt going to be a simple solution. I would be grateful for any simple checks i can make...its from a 98 passat. Thanks...

Last fuel filter change? Water drained from filter?
I have had the banjo inlet on the filter blocked which gave the same symptoms.

The fuel filter is on the bulkhead - the banjo connection on the right is the inlet, undo this and check that it isn't blocked. I presume that you have opened the drain at the bottom when you say tap - this is for draining water off as it settles at the bottom of the filter, usually you have to open a screw on the top at the same time to allow it to drain. (There is always a minute amount present in diesel and it can build up over time)
Your problem may not be this but it is the easiest check to start with.

Changed fuel filter, thanks for that.. the leak was diesel from one of the pipes between the turbos. Thanks for your help.

Nexxxxt problem is whenever the sun is out / engine gets warm it turns into a chuggathon... it seems air must be getting in from somewhere? Would i be right in assuming that?

Thx

No one is really going to be able to help with a description like that.. I presume you mean pipe between injector rather than turbos?
What does chugathon mean? If you think you might be getting air in the diesel pipes have a look at the clear pipes that run from filter to fuel pump. See if you can see lots of air bubbles when it's running. Hot weather wouldn't really make that worse though...

It chugs like a steam train, pulling back and constantly loosing power, even when idling now...dont have any clear pipes, when i opened the tap at the bottom of the fuel filter i think it ran diesel out rather than water, im guessing thats normal...going to check the banjo later on...thx
