PS The above case is always the problem. I can justify the need for say, removing certain studs (pistons and barrels out, all bookable time) or supplying all new head nuts or condemning any number of other components that to the untrained eye "look just fine" but... when a motor pops its cork after the customer said "just put them back" who then gets the blame?
That is why I said that I can do this sort of work, but do I really want to when I am all too aware of how a wbx can go wrong and bite back?
Short engine rebuilds I would happily do because I can do everything that is required for the best poasible job, but a reseal is only as good as the rest of the engine.

Yes hard to know where to draw the line.
many will like the attention to detail attitude but it comes at a price.
Perhaps give your customers some choice, after discussion or risks as to what gets reused, lower price vs reduced warranty.
Two examples
My car had a engine management light coming on periodically, it had a new cat so not that, my mechanic phoned me to discuss options, he could not guarantee it was lambda sensor as it tested ok but he advised me to try that next, I agreed, it fixed it.
If it hadn't well at least I had agreed to the work and he had no liability or guilty feeling.
Gearbox went to Aidan, he noted the c&p was not set perfectly when the last person was in there, but put it back becuse he had no reason to doubt it. If I was told this I would have said yeh put it back.
It became noisy and so went back for a new c&p which cost more in the long run.
Erring on the side of caution was the right choice here but who was to know? and if he had I would have baulked at the overall price and always wondered if it was needed.
