Hi all
The fuel pump (original mechanical pump) atttachment on my 2.0L CU Aircooled engine has been bodged by a PO. There's an M8 stud with nyloc nut in the top hole, and an M8 x 40mm bolt in the bottom one.
Proper fittings should be 'Torx head' bolts according to Haynes (using a nut on the upper fastener makes it difficult to undo with engine out, impossible with engine in). But the Vagcat diagram says M4 x 12 mm bolt, which surely must be wrong!
Anyone able to tell me the correct socket bolt sizes? I tried an M8 x 40mm in the top hole, but it bottomed out with 10mm to go. Should the upper bolt be shorter than the lower one? Wondering if there's a sheared-off bolt in the upper hole.
Thanks
Neil

Re: Fuel pump bolts on CU
Hi,
I have just checked mine, they are M8 x 37mm long (from under head) with an M8 spline drive, head 5mm thick 13mm diameter, both the same.
I hope this helps.
Brian

Hello,
Photos will help...
If it has been bodged to stop an oil leak.. maybe you do not have the correct bakelite spacer.. this accounts for the longer bolt..

You'll find these pics and the text in 'Ooops'..
Hope this helps..

Re: Fuel pump bolts on CU
Thanks guys - that helps. I've got the Bakelite spacer (mine is like your middle pic, Sarran) but there's obviously something in the upper threaded hole that shouldn't be there. I'll cut down a socket headed bolt to fit.
Cheers
