Diesel injector socket?

Post by bootie3367 »

Good afternoon. I know I require a deep thin walled 27mm socket to remove injectors.
Does it have to have the 'window' or not?
This is before I splash out my hard earned.

cheers

Can be done with a ring spanner with pump removed but I made one years ago with a 27mm socket cut down and a piece of tube the right size welded in the middle.

Dave, thanks for the offer, back in the UK at the moment so unable to take you up on that.
As it's only #1 injector leaking I won't be taking the pump off........ (hopefully!)

Now I've been doing a bit of research and I have found that some of the available sockets are not deep enough to go over the leak off pipe spigots.

Can anyone who has bought one of these make any recommends as to which brand I need to go for.
Halfords was going to be my first port of call but one reviewer said he couldn't use it for the above reason!
So Sealy or any others?
Please?

Thanks
Jon

Be wary of cheap ones, mate bought a lazer branded one from GSF the other week, tried it on a very tight injector and all it did was twist and crease the metal of the socket :?

Cheers Elvis, that's exactly the recommends I'm looking for.
Heading back to Spain on Sunday so time enough to get the right one!

Yep. Only happens under load, not the pipework or unions or leak offs, they were all bone dry.
After a run up and down the mountain, #1 injector had a small pool of fresh fuel sitting in the well with evidence of bubbling. I guess it's the seal there. I have new ready to fit, although a salty old seadog mechanic did tell me I could re use the old one by annealing????!!! I could do that but do I want to?

In that case its far more likely to be leaking from the seal in the injector [between the two halves of the injector].

Right, so what does that entail and how easy is it to replace.
I thought it might be the seal where it screws into the head (hoping now)
I didn't realise the injectors split like that. Can you elaborate please Dave?

Oddly enough the number 1 injector on my van had the same symptoms bubbles around the base of the injector...
but the bubble rate didn't increase when I reved the engine!!
The end cap for the leak off system had perished ! So I replaced it ..no more bubbles!
The injectors are made in two halves so the break pressure can be adjusted ( using shims of different thickness ).
The "break pressure on ours is 155 bar"
If you can get your van over here I'll sort it for you!

Well that's given me food for thought and yes, I tried to replicate the problem without load on the engine, no dice.

I have had zero luck trying to source the elusive socket....... all those I looked at were not thin wall, so no way for them to pass over the leak off pipes.
Going to try t'internet right now and get one delivered.

I might be able to make it Dave, depends on the jobs list from SWMBO!
Message me your number and I'll call for chat anyway mate.

Cheers
