Westfalia high top

Hi all

I shall shortly be removing my westfalia high top on my Aircooled T25 to deal with the rot underneath.

The lip in the gutters that folds over the edges of the high top has completely rusted away in places. When I come to refit the high top do I need to recreate the lip or would some form of adhesive suffice?

The internal frame of the high top bolts to the body, so I wondered why VW bothered with the folded lip in the first place.

As always, any advice gratefully received.

there may be some bits off wire/metal in the base of the gutter areas etc, this was from the heating wires on the old sealing methods, i have seen some westy roofs fitted without the front lip , the ones i have seen look a mess,you decide

The lips aren't the primary means of fixing - that's the sealant.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I read through the samba thread a few weeks ago, very informative. I stripped out the inside panels and insulation from mine a few weeks ago. The four mounting points where the roof bolts on are solid.

My gutters are good except for a couple of areas towards the back so will sort these. The majority of the roof is farked around the edges so will cut out and replace.

I'll recreate the lip at the front if need be. Couldn't see an obvious way to recreate the lip along the side so will just use adhesive.

I'll have aread through the Voltswagon thread.
