Eber air intake Q (air drawn from inside van)

I have a eber under my rear seat, as per pic

I was think of changing the air intake hose, instead of a long hose over to where the battery box is in the picture and out a vent in the kickboard.... i was thinking this.

A hose straight out of eber into a hole ill drill in the metal sheet in front of it, where it will terminate.

This is then the gap to the living area of the van


What are people thoughts? I'm not sure whether it will 'pull in' enough of the warmed air through that gap to modulate down as ebers do. I suppose it can't really get it from anywhere else?.. So anyway, what do you think?

Don't see why not, Westy in-takes are under the back seat with no vent at all

Thanks for that bit of info, i didn't know the westy set up was like that. Do those older units in the westy's ramp down like the newer ones?

So is the air temp sensor inside the Eber?

its just inside the unit where the air intake is. Don't know if its the same for the early units?

DOH! I thought it was in the controller!

I have a D2 sat in the garage as I thought is was broken. I tested it in the bench and the fan speed didn't decrease when I directed the heat over the controller. Now I know why. Thanks.

I was selling off some Airtronic (D2) remote temp sensors some time ago but no one was interested.

It makes sense to measure the air at the intake point though when the heater is mounted at floor level, the remote sensor is of more use where the heater is mounted higher than the floor such as in a boat installation. My own Webasto HL32 is mounted under the rear seat in my VW with no dedicated intake, sufficient air being drawn in through gaps. Measure the small gaps and cracks that you have and I bet the area is far more than the air intake area of the heater. Less likely to be blocked entirely by kid's swimming bags/wife's shopping etc without a single aperture.

Just test it with the output directed at the inlet if you are testing in a cold workshop. Some controllers do have an internal temp sensor though - it depends upon which type you fit or is fitted by the original installer.

thanks. as your looking at this thread OBG..... the heat outlet on mine is a 90 degree affair, on the back of it is a factory hole..

obviously it pumps out heated air, so i may just bung it. Do you know what its meant for though?

Most probably for a small bore heated output for directing at the windscreen - I started to do one like that for the screen in my boat. I would just block it off.

Yes mine did (I'm running a Webasto now)
