gear change noise

Post by dubslug »

hi all, when changing gear I get the most awful squeaking from gear stick/linkage..
any ideas?? seems to be worst when going forward backwards in gears i.e 1-2 3-4 etc. its very annoying and there seems to be loads of moving parts involved in linkage, just want to get right bits.. its a 2l cu engine 4 speed box if that makes any difference??
I can get all gears okay
cheers

difficult to diagnose without knowing where the sqeak is coming from you just need to go through it all front to back, disconnect where necessary to isolate and find the source of the noise, could be the ball the stick is in, the guides at the bottom of the stick, the bolt that holds linkage to stick fretting in the stick and ovalising the hole, front bush, rear bush and linkage could be rubbing against something it wouldn't normally touch but which has moved or become stuck where it shouldn't be like a bit of road debris, and the rear set up on the Aircooled is a bit weird but involves male and female parts which should be bushed and lubed
