1600ct

Hi All

With little research, and led by my heart rather than head, I purchased an old t25 in the depths of last winter. In hindsight, I should of held out for a diesel or a water cooled petrol... but It was the draw of the unknown air-cooled business that excited me.

I probably paid a little over the odds, but it as it was all mot'd and drivable and very local.

Vans great... but it is unbearably slow. Its not so bad once its warmed up... I appreciate these are the slowest and worst engines, and it will never be a flying machine... but at present its almost a danger to the public highway!!

Im reasonably mechanically minded, and have done the obvious compression checks, timing etc. However I have at present concluded the majority of the problem surrounds the carb... I believe the choke is staying on.. I concluded this whilst trying to fit 30 quids worth of not very compatible "rebuild kit" just campers sold me.

so, i think a good start, would be the electric solenoid jobby on the side of my the 34 pict 4... I believe its not presently working(I have removed it, passed current through it, nothing happens).

It also seems its not quite as easy as buying a "new carb" ... unless im looking in the wrong places, it appears you just cant buy them?

Ive read too many threads explaining the only solution is to "change the engine"... but I have neither the time, money, inclination on a van that I haven't yet learnt to love.. I need a bit of foreplay first :D.. maybe once its earnt some love... so I hope someone here may be able to point me in the direction of either

a replacement carb / or an alternative router of carburation
somebody / place selling the electronic choke module on the side of the 34 pict 4

any help / advice / direction would be very much appreciated. Im not expecting miracles but Ive spent most of the weekend reading everything I can before asking the question!!

anybody air-cooled wizards live near or around leicester?
