Engine cutting out

Post by G Dub52 »

Hi Everyone,

I was not sure where to post this as I am not sure if it electrical or mechanical.

Basically I have a 1.9 DG with LPG, When I drive the van first thing (so when its cold) and I come to some traffic lights or a roundabout, more frequently of late the engine cuts out, so all my red lights come on the dash and I have to key off and on again.

I thought maybe because its cold and the Gas maybe isnt flowing so well but I increased the gas flow and have also noticed that it does it when warm too. I drove to dubfreeze all the way up the M6 fine and then as soon as I got to the last couple of roundabouts it just kept dying.

It happens under braking every time so is it slow idle, is it ignition or key barrell maybe?

I really don't know where to look as I have changed every item from the ignition side apart from the key side of things.

Any ideas? past experiences or similar?

This has been heard of before on LPG systems using the simple "mixer ring" LPG feed on top of the carb. Mine used do it. Summat to do with the air intake pressure varying between high and low road speeds I seem to recall. Since I fitted a BLOS LPG feed it has stopped doing it. I note that you van was converted by Gasure, so that would be your first port of call. A quick phone call to Steve would be worth it, he is very helpful and will have come across this before. Oh and I hope you made a note of where the adjustment you altered was before you moved it ;)
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

It's funny you should say that, he converted my old van to Gas last year and it had BLOS but it kept blowing up air boxes so he fitted the conventional ring design.

It was in his workshop that I bought the van I have now :)

I didnt even think if it would be gas related but thats helpful thank you I will call him today to have a catch up. :ok

my van did the same on lpg - seemed to drive fine...cut at roundabouts.

Had it serviced...the gas analyser up the exhaust showed it was out of balance at idle etc...retuned and its been fine ever since. Also try cleaning your air filter...
