Looking at that - it is more than 'surface rust' on the nearside sill and jacking points. Metalmick8y will doubtlessly see far more than me. :D

So you actually bought it before reading the wicki and asking for advice ? Why do people do that? Over excitement I guess. By the way the so called 'surface rust' usually comes through the metal from behind on the bodywork. Ah well, good luck.

Over excitement ? I bought it because all others i have seen are more expensive and most have some rust which is expected really, i pick it up tomorrow, i read through the wiki on this forum and by advice on here and from people i know it looks a good buy, i dont expect to get one in showroom cond at that price,

It will be behind the sills also, B post, C post and jacking points are usually shot if the sill is that bad.
Look at Metalmick8y's posts detailing the work involved. This will give an idea https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... t&start=30

You won't untill they open it up..or use a scope.
Then if the repairers are good they will cut deeper, and replace with good steel.
If they are bad, then you'll be doing it all again in a year or two.

That's when you need to assume the position. :D

Its lived by the sea. Check for rot.

Sorry didn't see you had bought it, last few posts didn't show up before I posted.

Have some fun in it first summers on its way, always sort the rust/rot in winter when not using it as much.
