Id defo take it for a mot first (ask them to have a look at the bogged up sill, he will find it very difficult to argue against that, with a few other jobs on the list. Hopefully then youl have a useable van. Good luck.

would it be worth buying a welder and having a go yourself,im a mobile welder and I think a grand is probably way overpriced but a garage does have overheads.A mobile welder would probably cost half that.I personally wouldn't bother with the seller he,s obviously got no morals, and would be a lot of hassle get it sorted and enjoy the van.

I'm suggesting that a mobile welder would be a lot cheaper than a garage, just my opinion as I do it everyday day.Just tryin to give the guy a bit of help that all.

I would try and reject it I think. Its a lot of money for something described as rust free that isn't. It could be that even he wasn't aware of how bad it was and the standard of work carried out. If that looks fruitless or you don't want to go back, have the work done in stages - to your satisfaction.
I can see what Fazzer is driving at although it would depend where the real rot was. Some may not be evident until the cutting begins but even so, in stages its managable.

Re: Help/Advice needed, van needs £1000 welding done
On Wednesday the van is going up on a ramp, the guy works on the likes of rolls royces etc.. Which is probably why it is so much. The quote of £1000 was a rough guide, as the guy said he couldn't give a true quote without having a proper look from underneath the ramp.
On Wednesday I will take some photos so I can post them on here for all to see, for a bit more advice.
Underneath the driver side foot well, and the top of the wheel arch defiantly need welding, but the only reason the sills are questionable was because of some fibreglass the welder found, hopefully on Wednesday I will have a true understanding of what is needed and what sort of money I'm looking at spending.
I do intend to get a few more quotes.
I will keep the forum updated on Wednesday

So bodging with fibreglass.
Get a report from him once he's given the van the once over and in particular in relation to the context of 'rot free' and 'rust free'. If it's a bad as it sounds, then ask for your money back unless you want to incur a lot more expenditure putting the problems right and move on. We await the report!

Re: Help/Advice needed, van needs £1000 welding done
Sorry fazzer, not knoking but the op has no idea so with respect to him not much can be gleaned, the fact the other guy works on rolls is irrelevant and would not help as he wil have little idea as to how these vans are put together do really its up to the op to provide detail picks of what is found and only then can useful afvice on what really needs doing be given

My van was sold as "just needs a lick of paint"
A bit late for me to take it back now five years later!

Re: Help/Advice needed, van needs £1000 welding done
You should speak to people who specialise in welding t25s - not Rolls Royces tbh .....
Re: Help/Advice needed, van needs £1000 welding done
The chap who sold it to our bruddah has at least two other T3s in his gallery so you would have thought he knows what he was looking at (hopefully
) when he sold/described it

Re: Help/Advice needed, van needs £1000 welding done
Think people are writing this guys van off, without seeing anything, at the moment there is a bit of rot by the seatbelt mount and on the drvs footwell, hasn't a lot of other t25s got this.I know it was described as rust free, if I had a rust free t25 (that's not just visable rust) id put it in the guiness book of records. Yeh he could get his money back, yeh he could go to small claims, but then he will have his £6k back and no van, so then he has to go and buy another van, same problem begins again. ffs the seller has a resto garage and has offered to put it right. As said take it for a mot, list some more faults give it to the seller, day later he will get his van back, end of.
