Aircooled thermostat/heater control flaps, position?

Post by paperhouselad »

See enclosed photo,my question how close should the curved control flap be to the oil cooler when right down? in the photo this is as far down as it goes with the tinware fitted on the other side. If the tinware is taken off the other side that flap goes up and the curved one pictured does go down more its all put together correctly, ( i think) interesting to here comments, thanks john.john_plant1/SAM_339

[urlImage][/url] Great thanks for that. photo to go with text above. question should the flap go lower than this ? looks like it should, the tinwear is fitted on the other side holding that flap down by touching on rubber stop, so this side is as far down as it will go. all put together correctly nothing bent. any help much appreciated.

Don't put pictures up with a 009 dizzie you'll never hear the end of it.

Loads of info here about flaps.

Was the Ratwell link no help? The photo showing the flap position looks the same as yours.

Hi thanks for that but if you notice on your photo the left hand flap is in the closed off position meaning the oil cooler side flap will be in the open position, as one goes up the other goes down. my photo shows the oil cooler side flap in the same position as your photo but the other flap is fully open meaning oil cooler side should be fully closed ie to the bottom. wish someone could verify how close to the cooler is closed. there is minimal adjustment on the linkage to get much closer than shown, thanks.

Yes it is in the right position.
You need to check that when the flap (for cylinder 1 +2) is fully open at 90 degrees, the flap for 3+4 is fully down over the oil cooler. If its not then slightly bend to fit. I bet you dont have to do it though.
Good luck
