AAZ conversion JX Turbo or AAZ Turbo?

Post by jody »

Hi
I'm about to convert my 1.7D to a AAZ. I've been informed i can use the JX turbo (which I don't have yet) and this will minimise the additional non standard fabrication. But is there may be an issue with fitting a JX inlet manifold on to aaz. Also i think this will allow me to use my 1.7 engine mounts.

or should i use the AAZ turbo - what fabrications are needed.

Thanks

Jody

You didn't mention if your conversion was ETDI or MTDI? If you're using an ECU then use the AAZ Turbo. however if you are using a mechanical diesel pump use the JX turbo. Remember different adaptor plates for each choice, Brickwerks have one for the JX turbo or ultimate engineering for the AAZ Turbo. As for the inlet manifold, if you use the JX manifold use the JX gasket.
Why does everything I "want" - scrub that, need - cost so much?

AAZ doesn't have an ECU.

To use the standard diesel mounts you will need the jx exhaust manifold.
Any kkk k14 turbo with the VW trapezoid bolt pattern will bolt up to the jx manifold and work fine so jx and early aaz later aaz used a k03 with a 3 bolt pattern.
Best to use the aaz inlet as the jx has different port shape and after opening leaves little gasket face to seal on. You could modify the aaz inlet so the hose from the turbo fits as the jx however its probably easier to make up a hose in silicone.

ETDI (Electronic) MTDI (Mechanical) In case your still confused look at the fuel pump and see if there's a flywire ETDI or wire MTDI Simples

Can you fit an electronic fuel pump on an AAZ engine?

Thank you all for your comments.
Very helpful. I'll now pass them onto the garage who is doing the work.
Cheers
Jody
