Hi,
Picked up our first ever Vw Van yesterday. Over the moon with it. Drove the 170 trip back with no major issues!
My question is this. I figured out the heater controls, eventually. And It only blows hot or very hot air air out. Handy for the cold drive back yesterday but not much fun when the summer hits! LoL
Its a 1981 2.0l air cooled T25 by the way.
Oh and it only used half a tank of petrol for the 170 mile trip which I'm well please with. Unless the fuel gauge doesn't work properly!

And yes - the fuel gauge is more of an 'approximate estimation' than an actual 'reading'
If it was full when you started then try refilling it and see how much goes in - that's the only real way to know how much you've used!!!
No prob. Just wear goggles if you squeeze underneath to look at exchanger flaps - chances are you'll get grit in your eyes if you don't. Check they exist and move. Check any spring is in place and cables connected. In all probabilty cables have snapped and previous owner wedged them open. You could always un-wedge them in the Summer I suppose but best answer is to buy some new cables, spend an age feeding them through and fit what might be missing. Depends on how keen you are. Better as a warm weather job certainly.

Don't know if it's the same system, but there was a cable attached to the heater lever in my old T2. That broke so that the system did not open or close. I got a mate to fit a simple lever to replace it as there were no replacements available.
Before that the long cables that ran to the heater exchanger flaps had rusted away and had to be replaced. Don't know if they are still available.
