I can't see the point of having a permanent fridge if (when you think about it), 95% of the year its going to be sat there unused and adding dead weight.
Mind you I'm not really much of a beer drinker and I found a powdered milk that is palatable in tea.

I have similar thoughts to you. A fitted Waeco CR50 is much more capacity than we need so we would end up either half empty space - or filling the fridge with more than we need.

I've given cool boxes some thought but I prefer the convenience of a fridge. Great for a weekend but we enjoy weeks at a time in the summer. Also, they are ok at keeping pre-cooled things cool but not at cooling stuff as and when needed. Good way of keeping a bundle of notes in your pocket though

The compressor fridges are expensive but a cool box is never going to be good enough for a week or more. Even if you keep buying ice or freezing packs at campsites. If you've got a portable waeco you can always let mates use it for a few quid to get some of the cash back!

This reasoning is exactly why I bought my 63qt fridge. It will hold enough food for a week or beer for a day (just kidding) On a week long trip there is no soggy food and zero mess from it with the fridge. I have a cushion for the top of it and doubles as a seat while cooking. The draw on this unit is 5.5 amps while it is cycling and slowly less as it gets cooler.

in your original post you mentioned the CDF 25 as one of your possibilities. This is what I have recently fitted as part of my new interior.

Previous experience with a full Reimo interior with 3 way fridge lead me to the same place as you - it's way bigger than we need and requires a flue installation. I have mounted the Waeco on drawer slides so it still fits into the kitchen unit out of the way. The top opening also retains the cold air when you open it, unlike a door.

I have found that it cools very well and is economic on it's power requirements. Also quiet enough to be ignored during the night. Capacity is adequate for the two of us and, although not a wine drinker, it will easily take 4 pint milk bottles.

Some will do five days ok and if it comes to it, you can replenish with ice from the local supermarket. It also doubles up as an extra seat. They're totally silent too

Totally agree, we got fed up with our 3 way fridge especially when there was no power and trying to run off gas, it was a pita and we are usually only away for the weekend and bought one of these :

Its brilliant, all we do is stick it in the fridge (we have a large one in the garage usually used for beer and wine etc ) the night before and freeze a large bottle of water (ice cream tub also works) and stick that in for the weekend, works a treat and always stays cold, there is always ice left in the bottle when we get home so shows how cold its stays.

I have narrowed it down to 2 but really cant decide which one:

CDF 18 or the CDF 25.

There doesn't seem to be much in it, I guess its just the fact we are dropping from 33ltr.

yeah, thats usally the best way big is best but yet we strive to make things smaller and smaller

Wife has read loads of reviews and has learned that the new versions have compressors in from china (waeco spec) whereas the older model ie CF18 had the Danfoss compressor - older ones were better. This pretty much by the by as no one has stock so a new china version it is then
