Cannot remove fan as it is stuck to hub - Type 4 2.0 engine

Post by Westie82 »

Hey guys,

In the process of removing my fan housing but after removing the 3 bolts the fan will not budge, so thinking it has corroded to the fan hub.

I have given it a few hits with a copper faced mallet but it still seems to be stuck solid.

At the moment I have giving it a good dowsing of “Plus Gas penetrating fluid” to hopefully help with freeing it up, is there any other hints or tips which could help?

Thanks in advance

Mark

They are a tight fit anyway. Gently levering against the fan housing each side with a prybar in the pulley V to sort of rock the fan off.

Thanks guys, at least I am on the home straight. Once the housing is off I can get the last 2 pieces of engine tin and send the whole lot off for powder coating, fed up of rusted bolts and tin :x
