Seitz window in LHD 16" Syncro side loading door.

Post by wolfbus.uk »

Trying to install a double glazed opening window in my 16" Syncro. The existing window hole is 1075 x 450.
The Seitz S4 size 1100mm x 450 hinged or sliding window would be ideal in theory.
Problem is the overall size of the actual frame is 1148mm x 481mm.

There is about 470mm between the upper & lower swage lines.

So has anyone fitted one of these without it looking like a dog's dinner?

Seems I have three choices, I can either buy new a solid door from VW heritage paint it & put in a 900 x 400 Seitz window. (1000 x 400 doesn't exist)
The door is around £600 paint probably £300 fitting window & window cost is £400. Overall cost £1300 Ouch.
Bodge in the 1148mm x 481mm (1100 x 450) overall cost £400
Try to refab original door with 1075mm x 450mm hole to take a 900 x 400mm (948 x 430 overall )window.

Any ideas very grateful, or if anyone has a solid LHD door for sale please get in touch!!!

forgot that you mentioned this before, cheers if you could Si! Ready to order windows when I know which way to go with it, you'd think there would be an overland/camper alternative to Seitz!

Another few ML tins in the post btw! :D

930 x 430mm overall frame is next size down, have a feeling that caravelle aperture will be too big as well

window in ex ambo cuts into the lower swage, I think John's one cuts through upper?

I think if the Seitz upper horizontal was almost inline with top of cab window & "cut" into lower swage aesthetically that would be much neater if technically possible.
Assuming the top edge of the Seitz is sitting about flush with upper swage then the lower edge of larger (1100 x 450) Seitz would have to sit 481mm below.
So could you check if that takes us 10mm into the lower swage please Si. If so could you tell me how far the swage sits out from panel at 10mm into it.

Had an idea, you can see on the deep red motorhome as the Seitz was built for a 26mm panel & our van panels are a lot thinner than this of course so they have used 19mm thick wooden batons
between the frame & metal van panel. They curve one edge of the vertical batons to take the contour of the side of their van, as the Seitz has no flexibility.

So forgive me if I am wrong but if the lower swage only protrudes say 15-18mm at 481mm below upper swage then we could have our answer & taper the vertical wooden batons to suit?
Nicely finished do you think this may work?
