Wipers question

Evening all, can anyone answer my cryptic question. when i pull the wiper stalk towards me the washers work but wipers don't.
Are the wipers supposed to work with the screen wash like most modern cars or is it nothing to worry about.

That's an interesting question to me, because on my previous UK market van the wipers came on for a few wipes with the washers, like a modern car, but on my current South African van they don't. Not sure if this is a fault or if the functions vary depending on the van's original market. Anyway its not a problem for MOT so I don't worry too much about it.

If you have the variable delay wiper relay then that also includes the '5 swipes' when you pull the washer on.

my 89 van does a sweep with water spray my mates 87 doesn't
i figure some do some don't

yer that's what i was thinking, speaking to other guys across the forums seems to a varying thing. cheers for the pointers
