What are these bits called, probably non VW

Post by voodoopenguin »

Clearing a bit more in the garage and came across three metal rings. These are replacement body parts for when headlamp surrounds in older cars have rusted. I bought these when I was restoring MGBs and Triumphs many years ago but I believe they were common to a lot of 60s and 70s cars that used the standard Lucas headlamp. I can describe them but was wondering what the official name would be if I listed them on eBay, I've Googled with no luck and my MGB parts catalogue went over 20 years ago.

If anyone is interested then feel free to make an offer before they go on eBay.

I wouldn't get rid of them just yet if you're planning to upgrade headlights in the future. The 7" headlight project is focused on those. You may well kick yourself if you sell them - unless you've got square headlights....

I might be interested for starters.

Annoying thing is I recently got rid of a box of these and mini headlights as decided to not get another mini after 25 years of having various ones.

Sorry for not getting back sooner on this, thanks for the response. No knurled bits on these rings, they are mainly flat with an inner and outer lip. I think these are repair rings for the bodywork when the area around the headlamp has rusted out so you would repair the area and then weld these rings on ready to take the headlamp assemblies. Just did another search and found this picture of rust around a headlamp area, you can see the ring attached to the main bodywork.
