2.1DJ Misfire?

Post by Gusbang »

Got an issue with my 2.1DJ, can anyone help?

Drove the van 5/6 miles and the temp gauge was working fine and running with no issues, drove it later in the day and it started to bog down with a misfire, if you then fully accelerate it clears and drives through the misfire, this time the temp gauge is not working and showing cold. It also seems to be running rich when at idle when the misfire is there but does not stall. Have tried to disconnect and reconnect the air flow meter and this makes no difference.

Can anyone give us a clue where to start looking?

Cheers

Its probably over fuelling at low revs because of the temp sender problem mimicking a cold engine, maybe a bad connection at the temperature sender or sender faulty.

It'll be on the thermostat housing but might need someone with dj knowledge to be more precise, my van has Audi engine and before that had a dg, there is a bit in the wiki about temp sender problems.

on the side of the housing
you'll need a new clip and O ring with the new Temp II sensor. (Li/Blk)here
The temperature sender for the gauge is on the back of the housing (R/yel) here

senders and sensors are two different things :D

Just be aware that it is often the wiring to the sensor that is at fault. As in old/corroded or damaged. This area isn't far from the exhaust and suffers after 25 plus years.

WHS^ if temp gauge went down the same time as poor running i would be more inclined to check wiring/earths.

Temp gauge not working will obviously not affect the running of the engine as it is only an indicative sender, but for both to fail at once is either a billion trillion million to one chance or there is a common denominator. (back to wiring) :ok
