aey engine
hi i am new to the t25 scene my wife has just bought me my first van but unfortunately the chap saw us coming it is a 1.6 cs diesel engine but i need some help the van got delivered on monday and the engine is completely seized looks like oil starvation, ive been looking at alternative engines and got confused, im been told 3 or 4 different things by our local garages so ive decided to come on here for help.
ive been looking on ebay at alternative engines and ive noticed there is a 1.6 sb turbo diesel engine on there and an aey 1.9 engine, the garage where i live have told me that the 1.6 sb engine is very complicated to fit and doesnt work very well and the aey 1.9 doesnt work due to the fact it doesnt have hydraulic cams, could someone please advise me on where to go from here

Re: aey engine
On both counts your garage are talking out of their hoop.
TD will go in, slightly more involved as you might have to change exhaust and inlet manifold as it differs to the T3 one and a few intake pipes, air box etc
Pretty sure the AEY has hydraulic tappets but it makes no difference whatsoever, just easier to serve of anything as no valve clearances to worry about.
What they have neglected to tell you, and most importantly, is the AEY is an SDI engine so is fly by wire and is a whole new kettle of worms.
What you want for an easy and cheap solution is a 1.9 NA (non turbo) engine or an AEF. Plenty about, were in base model/'less desirable' amongst boy racer types so you can pick them up cheap as chips in a polo or mk3 golf era cars.
Also will swap straight in with little/no modification or fuss.
Hope this thread helps

Re: aey engine
hi thank you very much for your reply, i think ill stick to a non turbo engine as that seems the best solution, yes i the aey engine was an sdi engine but i got very confused as the aey engine i was looking at on ebay the item number is 301333167997 when i spoke to the man he also suggested this one as well the item number is 301333172012, ive been looking at the aef in polo and skoda engine at my local scrapyard today and he told me it wouldnt fit as the water pump is wrong which got me even more confused and he refused to sell me one as i didnt know what i was talking about.
i will read up the link you provided me with as you can tell im quite new to this would those engines fit that the chap has suggested from the car dismantlers? the first one is the aey he told me but it doesnt look like one

You're scrap yard bloke is a bell end
Water pump is a water pump is a water pump. It works with a belt on, it doesn't with out.
Send a mate to buy a complete lump, just make sure it hasn't been stripped of pump, injector lines, alternator etc etc as it starts getting spendy buying individual parts.
Lots of folk on here willing to help chap.
Only stupid question is the one not asked

Warrior,
Firstly welcome to 80 90. There are a lot of very clever people on here who know T25s inside out and upside down. Do not be afraid of asking stupid questions. T25s are a vehicle that you will always be learning about and everybody started not knowing a lot about them.
Secondly any engine can be fitted into a T25 it just depends on your mechanical knowledge and budget. Someone challenged my to put a 2.9l V6 24v Cosworth engine in one and I did it successfully. But I needed some help from forum members as some parts got tricky.
Look at the FAQ on Diesel engines and do a search through some posts on here where people have asked similar questions and got the correct answers (EG you are asking VW people who know what they are talking about)
Good luck getting the van back on the road.

If you are near Penrith you could try talking to DJ Autospray, I believe the owner has a T25 and as well as restorations they advertise Subaru engine conversions so should be mechanically competent.

Re: aey engine
hi i think im going to need a lot of help with this ive been reading the article that was suggested for the aef engine and the only bit im not going to be good at is the wiring for the fuel pump as im not too good with wiring.
i live about 50 miles from penrith so ill find the phone number and contact them, i do have another problem and i dont know whether i need to set up another question for it, i bought some rubber for the back windows from ebay and the gentleman dropped it off for me and he had a look at the van and said i should just break it up and sell the parts.
the reason for this is someone has cut a large hole in the roof and put a new one back on but done a very poor job of it apart from that the rest of the van is solid except for the engine

Re: aey engine
I'm in need of some help with doing a engine chop in a vw t25 (cu engine) I have a caddy 1.9 sdi mk2 engine, the shorter bell housing, the issue I'm having is the clutch is a dual mass on the caddy, I would like to go to a 3 piece version with solid flywheel, I'm am completely lost. Any information on what solid flywheel fits would be much appreciated.
