Well, finally got hold of a genuine tacho that I want to install in the van. Before taking the shroud off and having a look, I thought I'd ask what is involved as I don't currently have a tacho, just the clock with fuel gauge. Much involved with the task? Many thanks.

.??? Speedo is on the left and is staying there, the clock on the right is what I'm wishing to replace.

You'll need to take a look at the blue plastic pcb on the back of the gauges - as you'll be able to see the fuel and coolant temp gauges are in different places on your old clock display to the new Tacho one so I would think that you may have problems getting the pcb to match to the new connection locations - but I'm ready to be proved wrong ........

Also you'll need to check that you have a wire running from the coil (assuming you have a petrol) to the gauge cluster for the tacho signal - it may well already be there on a '89 van .......

Just found a youtube video where I go has done the same as me. He doesn't show the installation but says it's a straight swap. Fingers crossed.

Then I think he replaced the entire instrument cluster (i.e. Including the blue plastic pcb)
So good luck but I think you may end up needing to do some diy-ing!!!

The blue PCB won't have the connector for the tacho either. If you have the oil pressure warning buzzer (connector on back of speedo) then you will have the tacho signal on the PCB but will have to make up wiring to the tacho itself.
