205/80/16 syncro tyres

Post by wozza825y »

hi, just completed a e tdi conversion in my syncro pickup, it goes very well but as many will know it now has a lower top speed, at 50mph it is around 3500 rpm but my rev counter is not accurate. so while i can afford a gearbox rebuild with longer third and fourth gears i am going to use some 7jx16 alloy rims i have and fit 205/80/16 goodyear wrangler tyres. these will just be for road use not any serious offroading. has anybody had experience of these tyres/ size on a standard 14" syncro. any input welcome, cheers warren.

They won't fit a standard 14" Syncro - they'll catch on the arches. Largest size on a 14" without modifying the arches is 215/70 R16 or equivalent.

I run some 235/75 15 Kumho KL71's on merc steels on my not syncro with standard suspension without any issues, which work out to have a diameter of 28.88", your 205/80 16 are a tiny bit taller at 28.91" but also alot narrower so with the a syncro being higher than a standard van I can't see it being a problem

a 16" syncro has that as a standard tyre size and has longer trailing arms and the arches are wider. I
