There are some interesting builds on there. At the bottom of thier projects page is a freelander on a discovery chassis. I started to build exactly the same thing till I found I couldn't get the body to sit low enough on the chassis... glad I stopped now looking at that!

Interesting idea to put the LR drive train and flipped axles on a T25 though. I am assuming they are using perkins prima's because to 200 or 300 Tdi is too long or tall to fit in a T25 engine bay?

I quite liked the perkins prima It was the first real Direct inject engine used in a reasonable car. It was a bit rough round the edges but fuel economy was great. It used a garrett T2 turbo I think without an intercooler to give 82bhp. If you added a cooler from say a rover 200 and had a little tweek with the bosch pump it was possible to nudge this up to 95 bhp and remove a bit of the smoke under throttle. Mine used to eat glow plugs for breakfast but returned 35-40 mpg in a freight rover 200 minibus. (It was a naturally aspirated one until I added a maestro turbo engine!!!)

I asked because I had one (later incarnation) in a freelander that did 200k miles with no bother and later in an mg zs again no bother and remember them as the best engine the montego ever had.. But I'm now dreaming of being able to put the bits off a p38 range rover under a t25 with the exceptionally smooth and quiet bmw 2.5 straight six. Dream on.

The freelander and rover had a much reworked version of the perkins prima called the rover L series diesel, This was a much higher pressure injected engine with electronic ecu controlled pump. The prima had an old bosch mechanical only pump with the fuelling regulated by inlet pressure etc. The L series produced 105 bhp and 177 lb of torque in the rovers. Agricultural but a great engine in my opinion. It's for runner was also a great engine but it was a bit smokey and needed looking after.

Dream project of mine. Use a P38 transfer box and flip the earlier type diffs (choose as late as poss with 24 spline shafts). Rear engine V8, cheap drivetrain spares, low range and a T3 shell?

I had the M51 2.5TD bmw engine in a reliant scimitar...Chip tuned "pooh" off a shovel. When I bought my caravelle i did not need to spend long with a tape measure to realize there was no chance without lengthening the engine by about a foot... Its a an engine bigger than the 2.5l displacement really warrants.. its both tall and long. Its not got silly low down torque, it does come in quite strong at about 2000 rpm, Its more petrol in is driving characteristics might not be to nasty to a Gearbox. Its an engine happy to rev smoothly. MPG.... well not sure how good that would be.

Prima diesel on the other-hand, I remember went ok but refinement was not its strongest point, I think if you fitted one you'd be happy with the performance but dislike the headache... I'm not 100% sure but from memory maestros diesels used a golf gearboxes with a adapter plate so it seams to me that if you could get one of those adapter plates you could do a upright install.

The date is March 1st 1983.......And the Austin Maestro did have real potential as a mid-range family car. It was spacious, its road manners were more than respectable and its five-speed gearbox, sourced from Volkswagen, was a revelation to anyone trading in their Morris Ital. In the following year BL introduced a sporting version that was destined to become a modern classic – the MG Maestro EFI. The engine was the familiar 2.0-litre O-series unit now fitted with a Lucas-designed fuel injection system, transmission was a Honda-designed unit and the result enraged ageing ton-ups boys everywhere by proving more than capable of out-running a Ford Escort XR3i.

spent years as you know putting rover v8's in the rear of racers ,axles normal orientation just reworked tx boxes, all very simple and straightforward, can dig out picks if interested
