Ok so this has developed over the last few months...
When changing into 2nd from 1st (fully declutched) it will go into gear with a slight clunk/grind noise.
If i change into 2nd from 1st but wait for the revs to drop to tickover then change gear it goes in with no noise atall
When changing from 4th or 3rd to second there is no such problem
When premtively selecting 1st, 1st will not select until the speed of the van has dropped almost to a stop. Almost feels like 1st gear dosent exist until doing the very slow speed.
Does this ring any bells with anyone?
Thanks in advance
Rob

Re: Gears ... (selection)
I don't get the clunk, but 1st is certainly hard to select on the down-shift. Double-declutching works, or blip the throttle to match revs before changing down. To be honest I usually only use first while pulling away, so select it only when stationary.

Same here, 1983 westy... when going from 1st to second I feel the clunk. When warm up gears run way better...

So as none of you seem too bothered about this is it not something that needs sorting? If it was to be sorted do you know what needs to be done?

Yes, you get a reconditioned gearbox. @ £700 or have yours reconditoned.

Get a sticker made up saying, 'clunky 2nd gear club' and distribute them to the rest of us! Nowt too much to worry about.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?
