Is your Elite 2.1 motor still going well ?

I can't work out how anyone can supply a "recon"engine for 1500 quid.
A bare-bones freshen-up (basically gaskets, piston rings, cam followers, bearing shells, big end bolts, exhaust valves, oil pump and shiney rocker covers) uses about £550 in parts & postage.
No pistons or barrels, no heads, no camshaft, valve springs, pushrod tubes...
From strip-down to the last rocker clip is about 40 hours of diligent work, not including any maching or "recovery" work.
Just how little do these outfits work for, exactly?

This topic is getting like the oil threads we used to get a lot of on here, often discussed

I have mentioned on here before that I did email Elite, suggesting that their Ebay claims regarding all the parts they list as being replaced for new was actually not doing their reputation in the T25 world any good, (legal disclaimer = unless of course they are replacing all they say the do ) but I got no reply.

I (and some others on here of course) do maintain that for what you pay for, and as long as you don't get a "pup", their motors are not bad value for money, just not fully reconditioned as their blurb suggests.

This takes me back to a subject I know Si (TMT) and you Ian have an interest in, that was my thread (and straw poll) good while back now = Would you pay good money for a properly reconditioned WBX? where 47% of voters said they would. We could talk more about it here I suppose

Current price for a DJ piston/barrel set at Gunzl. They look like the Mexican ones with the 1mm too-short compression height from the markings.

And those, look just like a set I have on the shelf.. forget the 1mm too short.. the massive dish in the piston is more concerning.. compression ration must be down in the 8. summat..
I will dig one out and measure the chamber in it..
But.. IMHO a DG is the best place to start..

Not likely. Bloody great gap for unburnt fuel/detonation, no quench zone because it's too far from the head and not forged so they will either melt or just crack. Hard to tell after a turbo engine has grenade'ed...

Forged for turbo every time.
