early and late dg engine differences

Post by flatnbroke »

Hi are there any difference between a early dg 1.9 petrol watercooled engine and a later one made in 87? Many thanks.

Engine the same, cooling system completly different.

If the next question is 'can I fit a later engine into an early van' then yes, just use whatever bits you have already.

2.1's will also fit an early using existing carb, exhaust etc.

the DG engines are interchangeable early to late and look almost the same but there are differences inside and some differences to the case.

the most noticeable difference is the second oil pressure switch for the buzzer on the late DG engines

If it helps, there is no "modifying" or buying of bits needed. All the bits off the engines are "bolt on" interchangeable, eg water pump, exhaust, the oil switch difference is a 5 minute job to "sort". I can't think of owt else (I bet I must have missed summat).

Not only that but it would be foolish not to change certain things when you have the engine out anyway, things like clutch, oil pump, engine mounts etc so the chances are you won't find an engine that is a straight swap without some sort of work needed.
