Hello all
I'm planning a 50 degree 1.8T swap in my 2.1MV Syncro.
I've found a '98 Passat (AEB code) with low miles that I'll hopefully purchase this weekend. I'm also planning to buy this weekend, a diesel bellhousing, diesel engine bars and a JX sump to bolt straight onto the donkey, and get me started. I plan to fabricate the bars to fit, and attempt the bowling ball method on my petrol tank.
I've been reading up and I'm under the impression these are the right parts for the easiest AEB install, would I be correct? I'm confident they are, and have read lots on the internet but before I commit many pounds I thought it wouldnt hurt to post this on here just incase I've got something completely wrong!
I like this engine route due to the VAG parts, cost, donor cars available, power available and future upgrade opportunities, also I'd rather not lift the engine lid.
I know there are good and bad points, but all swaps do, and its time I just got on with it and made a decision!

It'll be good to see another 1.8T Syncro being done, not a common conversion over here. The only one I know anything of (I did the harness for it) is being fitted upright using the Overland (I think) kit. The engine was an AGU from an Audi A3. Duncan may be along here sooner or later and should be able to comment in more detail.
Being a crossflow design the top of the engine is quite bulky so I'm not sure about doing a 50-degree install. Have you any links ?
E D I T: I did find one via google, the one with the massive extended inlet manifold, and oddly painted block, gearbox etc ?

Hi and sorry I'm a bit late to the discussion. Check out SID1800 oh the Brickyard. He did the original conversion but I think he used a flipped A4 gearbox with home made adaptor and his is 2WD. The most obvious problem at 50 degrees is your inlet manifold so it might be worth looking on EBay for one from any of the front wheel drive versions as this is much more compact. Try for an AGU if you can as this has larger ports and bigger injectors as standard. Also check out Neil(Axeman) as he is well on with his conversion as well. PM me if you want to chat.
