I could be wrong,but i don't think he used the front and rear of the van.He used two rears iirc.

I like things like this,
Is it just me or does that axle look a bit forward , I can see it has obviously been carefully positioned there as its not in the wheel arch.
I like tear drop trailers too, the proper ones not the ones where a fillet has been put on the front top edge of a crappy box trailer!!

I keep thinking about these... a hightop rolling shell and a doka rear door would be a good starting point.
Got to be wheels in the middle to get the noseweight right. Maybe a double axle?

it would be better using one of the prototype bodyshells...they look quite normal/happy being towed

E D I T: Got to be a T3 shell but yes an Aircooled would make more sense, if one could be found.

This looks the best so far but I can't help thinking that no matter how good the conversion is, they still look Heath Robinson. An improvement, would be to fill in the voids where the grills are so that the front appears to be one smooth panel upto the windscreen.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Agreed. A tintop looks too low and moving the wheels to the middle is the only way to go. Cab doors welded shut too or it just reminds me of a Reliant Robin for some reason...

Personally, it's not for me but if I were to see a nicely converted one I'd probably take a few pics, pick faults, admire certain qualities, etc. I wouldn't want a 1930's Bentley but I drool over them at the Le Mans Classic every two years.

I am in the unenviable position of weighing up whether it's better to take two wagons on tour next time (long term plans) or take the one but hauling a custom-built trailer for "facilities", sleeping two with cooking and washing etc.
Basically a boys 'n' girls setup for sleeping and we didn't have anything like enough living space last summer in Europe, especially when the rain came in
One vehicle is always going to be more economical than two, even if it's doing 15 mpg hauling. Can't get two buses to return 30mpg at present, not going derv...) and it's more sociable if all bods are in one bus. But it will be slower, so covering the distances will be a challenge.
Two would give more flexibility for days out and backup in the event of a breakdown etc. but getting the mem'sahib behind the wheel on motorways or the "wrong" side of the road is another matter entirely and tolls/crossings etc would of course be x2...
Just trying to justify building a cool trailer and not becoming a shed dragger tbh
