Gas hob keeps blowing out

Post by hughzt »

To celebrate the first day of my Christmas holiday I took the van out for a run today and was looking forward to having a nice cup of tea whilst looking out at the Cheshire countryside, however a problem with my gas hob marred an otherwise excellent day (despite the rain!)

I have a two burner gas hob/grill in my van which was fitted by Calypso campers back in 2008. The larger of the two burners keeps blowing out randomly as though there is a flame fail detect device that isn't working properly. I changed the gas bottle recently for a new one so unless there is a problem with the regulator I'm a bit lost for ideas.

Does anyone know where I can buy replacement parts (e.g. new control valve)? has anyone encountered a similar problem?

The attached photo is of Dunham Massey and the temporary lake that appears in the adjacent fields every winter :?

Is there a thermocouple on the hob - you will see a small snub nosed protrusion that sits in the flame if there is one. Easily replaced if it's that. Failing that is the flame good and blue - if it is tending toward the yellow there is most probably an obstruction in the jet.

yup, what he said.. compare the thermocouple to the problem free burner, does it stick up the same amount? some are just help in place with a little clip, which can work loose and let it drop down out of the flame

Thanks Guys - I checked it out and it looks like a dodgy connection of the FFD thermocouple at the control knob. A quick wiggle (of the connection) seems to have sorted the problem.
