Sliding Window Seals...Info request

Post by chrispow01 »

Hi everyone,

Would like to pick your brains again ref sliding side window seals before ordering.
I'm looking to replace my window seals on my 1990 westy, the chrome trim type.
I've been looking at the bundle kits which supply front, rear, side middle and rear window seals, 6 in total. I called one supplier (JK) and asked if the middle seals are suitable for the sliding windows (See pic) and was told they are not.

Does anyone know where I can get these seals from or have any other info regarding these seals. The usual searches haven't come up with anything...
Thanks again in advance...

Chris

try http://www.customandcommercial.com/vw-t ... e_inserts/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
when using the delux ones ive found them to be good, forget sales pitch ref german quality and all the rest , ive not had any issues with these they are veewib and labled as such.
also ref the chrome insert, you need 3 mtrs per side window alone also the front rear seals take a different insert so can get very £££££
also i mainly use
http://www.volkswagenemporium.co.uk/shop/products.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in bothe cases they are on the phone and its worth a call to speak too them and confiirm they have what you need, much easier than messing guessing online

Believe what the man just said, don't make the very costly mistake I made, getting 'top quality' seals from a 'reputable' dealer and then getting them 'professionally installed' only to find that I am STILL bailing out water each week and all my interior is ruined!

Thanks Mike/Fairwynds..
I like the sound of the Veewib ones so was gonna go for them....C&C are doing this bundle at the moment for £125:

(without trim) so I'm tempted to lose the chrome trim, can't decide..

Just a quick one Mike, just asked the guy at C&C and he was also a bit unsure whether the sliding window type are compatible with the middle window seals he has, having never fitted them, have you fitted the sliding windows (with the alluminium frame) and what seal did you use if you have? Is it your normal side window seal or a different one maybe..?

Cheers Chaps

your factory glazed and just check that the orifice is the same on slider and fixed side, as for the ally frame yes i fit these ok same if you have the plastic vents on the rear 1/4,s they are a bit thinner then the glass, no issues
as said if you fo down the trimmed route then thats about £130 just for the inserts, soon adds up and a pain to fit compared to these, also the chrome effect soon tarnished and then they look cheap and nasty

Hi !
My question is similar to the previous conversation so adding to this thread rather than start a new one. I have a '91 Holdsworth - the flood defenses are failing (running out of newspaper) so I need to sort out the leaky Sliding window but simply don't know what to ask for.
The holes in gutter on the outside of the window are not blocked but the inside gutter fills up spills over and down the inside of the Bus soaking the carpet under the kitchen unit.
The rubber on the fixed window doesn't seem to go all the way around the window on either side and the once I believe 'fluffyish' channel that the window slides in is also perhaps perished near the center cross over point. Would appreciate any advice of what I need to search for/ buy /replace or even discover if the whole window can be replaced since the locking system isn't exactly Fort Knox standard
hopefully my pictures will help Many thanks, Joods
