I assume you need to replace yours. We just buy them when the price is right. They charge what they do because they can. Manufacture runs for a dwindling number of vehicles plays a part but most its worth is £40 in my opinion. Compare it to other vehicles and you'll see why.

I often think its worth altering the front fasteners and pipework to accept a more readily available rad, but then how often would you need to replace one.

Best most recent price was at Euro (£55 I think with discount offer). Its been less than that and lots bought them then - and resold them. You either wait for another better offer or go for the lowest at the time. Agree though, £100+ is a ripoff. I wouldn't pay that, no matter whose name was on it.

Worth noting too that its quite possible its not the original rad. It may well have been replaced since the vehicle was built. I know what you mean though. Its a job I plan to do in the Summer to be honest - possibly circumventing future trouble. Mine doesn't leak and its been flushed through in the past but new ones do tend to be more efficient in comparison. A new fan wouldn't go amiss either.

Bear in mind they are not all the same, the Brickwerks on for example is of original quality to the VW ones and the 'cheapy' ones aren't.

Not saying they won't last as long but making you aware there is a difference.

Well if the originals last 30 years its likely the rest of the van will have long gone before it goes :D

Its all relative I suppose. I get on really well with Home Bargains luxury wiper blades. This set has lasted me two years (2.99 each I think) and they clear the screen better than Bosch ones ever did. I think if you find something thats good or you get on with, you tend to stick to it. Name brands sometimes apply, sometimes they really don't but it does pay to shop around - especially in these increasingly fragile economic times. £50 is a day out for the lad and he comes first. :D
