p.p.s. = When I am making any connections on heavy gauge wire, I interlace the ends, bind with single strand copper wire, generously solder, then at least 3 layers of heat-shrink (each layer getting shorter) for safety and to reduce bending loads at the ends of the soldered join. It is very unlikely that any resistance (and resulting voltage drop) could occur on a join like that. I made a "one in to four out" loom in a similar way (for the 4 items in my vans that require a hefty-ish current) though a decent quality insulated "bus bar" arrangement would be easier, if I could find one.

Jump starting isn't an issue Ralf, I have a junction box under the drivers seat where the original battery to starter cable starts /ends and all the vehicle electrics continue off to the dash and fusebox , so just slide the seat mane pop the lid on the junction box and the jump lead can connect to the pole . I have the parts to install a snap connector in side the engine flap for the jump leads, like this for tail lifts on box trailers, but have actually got around to doing it so far..... I'm not sure I want to butcher my jump leads !
Battery temp is no bigger issue than under the seat as far as I can tell, if anything it's warmer in that void in front of the tail lights , and out of the way! It does make a real difference to the starting and charging , it's only half as far to the alternator and starter now!
Anderson connectors are quite handy for removable jump leads.. Wiring wise, i fitted a big junction box in the engine bay. one big fat cable from battery to this location, then splits up to other places like Alt, starter, Sterling ect. Oh and the sterling provides a nice 14.4v or over to the leisures..

Moving the main battery to the engine bay and using the now redundant main battery feed to feed the fusebox and the split charge next to the leisure battery also is a easy mod that improves things.
Worst place for a battery is in the engine bay with all that heat around. Batteries don't like heat, they last longer if they are kept cool, self discharge rates increase the hotter the battery is and charging becomes more tricky when batteries are warm. If you want faster charging of the battery the cell temperatures need to be keep cool. Best place for it is in the vehicle.

Click on this link, and skip down to where it tells you how the sterling works http://sterling-power.com/collections/b ... y-chargers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you still really want to know what voltage i have at the starter, ill check next time the sterling is in bulk charge mode. It's all in that link though

.
How many ampere hours do you need to put back into your battery after a normal start please
For a petrol engine you use 100A for a few seconds, you can do the maths.
.
Thanks, I work that out as about half a smidgen's worth of charge.
Apart from when one is daft enough to leave the lights for a long time, when would one want faster charging at their start battery please?
.

Because it takes longer to charge the battery.

What you call a confused face leaves me as a question mark with a nose and two eyes Lloydy.
Are you happier with " ? "
Yes please, I would like to know the actual reading you get at the starter battery when you have 14.4v at the starter battery
