Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
Now if some kind wbx-6 owner could let me take a mold from the top of their inlet manifold, I could be persuaded to go down the cast plenum route, maybe making a few more for flat-4 engines if there is a bit of interest?

i didn't realise oettinger were the same firm as okrasa, they did superchargers for beetles

Sure your not thinking of judson supercharger for the USA. Ocrasa moded the heads cranks and added carbs on air cooled engines.

think it would be better with a Holman logo frankly

Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
I remembered that I still have an EJ22 inlet manifold here. The plenum measures 12 x 13 x 6cm which equates to a volume of only 900-1000cc... but the throttle body is better placed than the wbx item.

Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
I am having bad thoughts about twin plenums with variable length inlet manifolds...and I can make it all myself!
Need to read up on MS to see it can control a stepper motor to actuate a VLM, then get an idea of the optimum runner lengths for the 2000-6000rpm range to see if it feasable with the space available.

Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
I managed to put in a swift couple of hours after work and cracked the seal...warmed tue heads and tue batrels stayed put. One hairline between the seats on #1, not really a surprise as its furthest from the waterpump so I will swap the heads over and make that #4.

Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
My custom-made expanding slide hammer comes good once again. Thankfully this engine was assembled correctly, so the gudgeon pins pull without too much effort

Some interesting details visible inside, standard wbx con-rods but subtly modified...all looks very healthy too.

Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
Inlet manifold stubs also ported, but one injector pintle shroud looks melted (?)

On the other side rust has cracked the plastic of the solenoid housing...

They will all need replacing then...

100 bucks a set in USA might be worth a punt, not bosch though,

Re: Big Bang Theory: Oettinger 2500E rebuild
Used to be able to chop them in for exchange, design is same as early Rover Vitesse or Jag V12 (pre-O ring fuel rail) and there are enough of those about, but they were grey body injector.
PITA that VW had to angle the injectors in the manifolds. Stupid detail. Enough to motivate me to remake them in alloy with injectors parallel and new fuel rails to suit.
